Week of May 17, 2016 - Barns and Goats ...

Glorious green blessings.

The leaves on the trees grow bigger each day, casting a green canopy over all we do outside. The peony buds are swelling and grasses are starting to flower. Each new day of the summer brings new green blessings.

This past week has been especially exciting here at Laughing Rock Farm:

Finishing touches are being added to the barn, which has gone up with your incredible help both financially and energetically!! We could not have done it without you.

A magnificent barn hex has been painted by our dear friends Rose and Stuart, which we will hang Memorial Day Weekend.

Outrageously wonderful stone steps up to the barn, and down to the milking parlor, have been put in place by our neighbor and friend, Farmer John and his great big horse.

My gym partner, friend, and co-teacher at the Green Goddess Apprentice Week, Yvette is taking care of seven guinea fowl for us until we are ready to house them.

And, we found the core of our new goat herd. Four wonderful Alpine does, one in heavy milk, are ready to come home with us next week and to greet you when you visit the last weekend of May.

Moonlodge and two workshops coming up this weekend, including, by special request, a new workshop: “Happy Knees.” There are still a few spots open in both the Green Witch Retreat and the Green Goddess Week. Please get in touch if you are interested.

And please do come and visit over Memorial Day Weekend. The goats will be here, and so will we. Come share memories of goats past and the excitement and joy of new goats. Refreshments will be available all day at Pearl’s. We hope to have the roof and goat weather vane (thank you, Sarah) on the memorial goat tower by then too.

If you want to help (it is a work weekend), please come between 9:45 and 10am on Saturday, May 28 and/or Sunday May 29, and we will park you here. There is always lots to do and we appreciate your help: we may build rabbit hutches and that home for the guinea fowl, as well as work with herbs and in the gardens.

If you just want to visit and meet the goats, come any time between 11am and 6pm on Saturday, May 28 and/or Sunday, May 29. Please park on the road (or at Pearl’s) and walk in. We will be out with the goats and doing chores, so we will see each other easily.

Yes, after eleven months of sadness, our hearts are glad! Goats are returning to Laughing Rock Farm. Come and laugh with us. Come and celebrate with us. Come and enjoy the richness of summer in the Catskills and the Hudson River Valley, where the fairies are at play.

Green blessings are everywhere.
